A busy first day. Starting with a 50-minute drive from the house to Tauranga airport, I hope to get this down to about 40.
I can’t go any further without a plug for the school, Euroflight is situated in a hangar complex at one end of the airport, and is spacious and well equipped. It’s only day 1 in NZ but from what I have sussed out it seems like a good place to learn, and the prices are way below Europe. If you get any business off this blog Tim I want some free hours! 🙂
By lunchtime I was behind the controls and lifting off, no messing around! Then a second flight at 4pm. It looks like I will be averaging two flights a day 6 days a week for the duration.
My theory about location and climate seems to be holding true, a bit windy this morning but it dropped off in the afternoon. Mount Maunganui (Tauranga’s airport) is located on the Northeast coast of the North Island, with a mountain range behind it creating a climate pocket, sheltered from incoming weather from the West and South. And temperatures are around 16 highs every day, see the attached forecast which is hot off the press. Not bad for winter!
Future dates, tomorrow I have the class 2 aviation medical, and next Tuesday, two exams, so plenty to keep myself occupied.
